My name is John Ten Cate, and 2nd Act Landscaping Services is more than a business—it’s the continuation of a lifelong passion.
My journey in this field began at Purdue University, when I graduated in 1991 with a degree in Landscape Architecture. For the next 15 years, I poured myself into residential landscaping, designing and maintaining outdoor spaces that helped families feel more at home.
Then life took me in a new direction. I returned to Purdue to earn a second degree, this time in Computer Technology, and spent the next 18 years building a career in software development. It was challenging, rewarding, and completely different from the world of soil, stone, and sunlight.
When I retired from software, I realized something important: I missed the outdoors. I missed the creativity, the physical work, and the satisfaction of transforming a yard into something beautiful and functional. Landscaping had always been my first passion—and it was time to return to it.
That’s why I created 2nd Act Landscaping Services, proudly based in Noblesville, Indiana. This company represents my return to the craft I love, backed by decades of experience, a designer’s eye, and the precision and problem‑solving mindset of a technologist.
Today, I focus on delivering reliable, thoughtful, high‑quality landscaping services for homeowners who want their outdoor spaces to look great and stay that way. Whether it’s mowing, maintenance, or enhancing curb appeal, I bring the same care and attention to detail that has guided my entire career.
